ASM International - no oxford commas!

When someone asks me what I do, I usually give them the short answer: I work at a professional organization for materials engineers that publishes technical journals, and I work on the journals publishing team.

As for the specifics, I can go on and on because every single day is something different. Some days I'm running Associate Editor or subscription reports and compiling journal article quality monitoring survey results, other days I'm designing the newest giveaway for our next conference and leading a meeting with a group of editorial board members, updating the submission instructions for authors. I've spent days covered in dust, safety goggles on, rummaging around in our library and an afternoon in Detroit, Michigan, interviewing influential leaders of materials science-related companies.

I have organized over 250 applications for three Associate Editor positions, collaborated with our IT team on the website's journal pages and functionality testing, run three Best Paper Award programs simulatenously each year, AND MORE THINGS. I engage with the top materials scientists from around the world on a daily basis, helping them with various issues that arise, gently remind them of tasks and deadlines, and complete.

In my role I've even worked for other departments within the organization during times of need. I wrote and proofed marketing content for six eNewsletters, publicizing events, competitions and calls for papers during a marketing transition. I exported journal papers for publication, extracting figures and tables and inputting metadata
